Aims and Objectives

The cycle of studies leading to the Master’s Degree in Art and Design for the Public Space offers further study for students from different courses in Fine Arts, Design, Landscape Architecture, and others, allowing to combine a former educational and / or professional training with a specialization that focuses its scope of action on the various areas of public space and its problems (social, political, urban and even virtual).

As a focus of intervention, the public space is understood as an operative and critical territory, from the public square to the museum, from the printed page to the Internet, allowing that candidates with previous training in various areas focus on problems that are located in a disciplinary interbreeding. As examples, a candidate with a background in archeology who wishes to look into the problems of material culture in an urban context, or an artist that wishes to investigate their practice in a unconventional exhibition context, a performer who will develop projects of a documentary nature, or an architect who wishes to apply their formative experience in a participatory context. In this sense, and since this is not a uni-disciplinary cycle of studies, MADEP presents itself as an innovative course because it acts precisely in the interbreeding of various experiences and backgrounds, enabling transversal knowledge and practice, unique in the national and international contexts.

The Master Course is suitable for English speakers and will accept candidates from multiple disciplinary backgrounds.

Structure

The first part of the course is structured around a contextualizing set of subjects, on the one hand, methodologies of research and project, and professional tools; on the other, the necessary theoretical knowledge to a consistent research; and finally, the projectual practice developed with the support of dedicated tutors, chosen according to their specialties.

The cycle of studies privileges, where appropriate, real context acting, allowing students to test the project-dimension and to deepen their research in a coordinated framework between the curricular context and specific situations.
